The Virginia Department of Housing & Community Development (DHCD) recently announced $8.2 million in funding for twelve projects throughout the Commonwealth. The Town of Appomattox will be receiving $1 million in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds for the Greater Meadowlark Neighborhood Improvement Project, which will rehabilitate nineteen houses, improve stormwater drainage, and increase pedestrian safety facilities along Patterson Street, Brown Street, Stevens Street, Patricia Anne Lane, and Price Lane.

Because of the large number of homes involved, DHCD has designated this as a multi-year project, so activities will be distributed across two funding cycles. Preliminary meetings with DHCD representatives are expected within the next thirty to sixty days.

As a regional partner with Appomattox County, Scott Smith, Senior Planner with the Region 2000 Local Government Council, managed the planning process and complied the application on behalf of the Town of Appomattox.
